Manas Parida takes All-Orissa Open chess title

Top seed and local favourite Manas Ranjan Parida edged out Aditya Pattnaik (Cuttack) on the basis of progressive score to win the title in the All-Orissa Open Chess Tournament, which concluded here at Town Club premises in Old Town today.

Both Parida and Pattnaik tied for the top spot with seven points each. But the former pocked the top prize with a progressive score of 34.5 points, while Pattnaik finished runner-up with a progressive score of 31.5. Local boy Saroj Rout claimed the third prize with 6.5 points.

Altogether 62 players from eight districts took part in the tournament, which was hosted by Town Club as part of its Platinum Jubilee celebration. Ekamra MLA Ashok Chandra Panda and Town Club president S K Routray handed over the prizes at the closing function.

Final standings (Top 10): 1. Manas Ranjan Parida (7), 2. Aditya Pattnaik (7), 3. Saroj Rout (6.5), 4. Natabar Das (6.5), 5. Sanjeeban Nayak (6), 6. Jitendra Kumar Das (6), 7. Dhirendra Kumar Das (6), 8. Manoj Kumar Tripathy (5.5), 9. Surjit Nayak (5.5), 10. Suvendu Kumar Patra (5.5).
